An Introduction to Aikido of Tamalpais |
- Dojo Etiquette
- Always bow towards the Shomen (picture of O'Sensei) when:
- entering and leaving the dojo;
- stepping on or off the mat;
- leaving or coming into the dojo proper (coming up from the restrooms or down the steps from the dressing rooms).
- Remove your shoes as soon as you enter the dojo and place them
under the wooden benches. Do not walk through the dojo wearing your
shoes.
- Pull your card at the beginning of every class you attend.
- Pay your dues promptly at the beginning of every month.
- Remain silent and still:
- when the sensei is demonstrating a technique in the center of the mat;
- when class is bowing in or out;
- during silent meditation before or at the end of class.
- If you come onto the mat and class has already begun, make a
formal bow (in seiza, with two silent claps) before you join the
class.
- Let Sensei know if you need to leave the mat for any reason. Do
not simply walk off the mat.
- It is the responsibility of all students to help in the daily
cleaning duties of the dojo. These cleaning duties are posted and
should occur every day after class.
- Keep your gi clean at all times.
- If
you borrow a weapon from the weapons rack, be sure to bow it onto the
mat before you use it. When you are finished, bow it off the mat and
return it to the weapons rack with respect and awareness.
